25 February 1945 Walter Winchell radio news broadcast covering the war in Europe and the Pacific along with other national stories.

Walter Winchell    1897 - 1972

Winchell was the inventor of the gossip column and then took it to the national airways in 1932 with the distinctive greeting: 'Good Morning, Mr. and Mrs. North and South America and all the ships at sea...let's go to press!'

His staccato delivery of headlines without much substance for details, and the use of Morse Code telegraph sound effects between the headlines items became his trademark style.

Winchell was one of, if not the most popular stateside radio broadcaster in the country during the war years.
