I was working as a police cadet with the Hollywood, Florida Police Department when I enlisted with a another cadet, Dennis A. Naylon, under the buddy system. We received our basic training and attended Military Police School at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

When we arrived in Vietnam I was assigned to C Company, and Dennis to A Company. One of my first duties was driving a gun jeep as an escort in the Long Binh to Tay Ninh convoy. While returning from a convoy escort from Tay Ninh, I was in a very serious accident on Route #1. The jeep flipped, and all three of us were seriously injured. The two other men that were passengers were sent back to the states due to their injuries. I broke my wrist, and dislocated my shoulder. Due to the injuries I received, I couldn't go in the field so they assigned me as the company clerk. I was later transferred to HQ Detachment, and was assigned as the driver for the Battalion S-3 Officer, Major David I. Bertocci.

I remained with HQ Detachment until the end of my tour. I was there during the Tet Offensive.

When I returned to the United States I was stationed at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC, with the 236th MP Detachment. My tour there was for eighteen months. I first worked as a Provost Marshal Investigator, and after receiving my promotion to Sergeant, I was reassigned as a supervisor to a discipline, law, and order patrol function.

I received my honorable discharge, and I returned to the Hollywood, Florida Police Department.

I retired as a sergeant after a twenty-eight year career. I then went to work as a Captain in the Golden Beach Police Department in Miami-Dade County.

I left there after one year, and I am now retired and enjoying myself in the mountains of North Carolina.
