After graduating from high school in 1967 I got married and was drafted in to the Army in June of 1967. I completed by basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and went on to advanced individual training at the Military Police School located at at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

My first duty station after MP school was Vietnam. When I arrived in Vietnam in November of 1968 I was assigned to the 615th Military Police Company, 95th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, headquartered at Long Binh Post in Bien Hoa Province, Corps Tactical Zone III.

At the 615th my duties were: Post Discipline, Law, and Order Patrol; Village and highway security patrol from Long Binh Post to Saigon in the south, and to Xuan Loc in the north; Convoy escorts during daytime; Post Reaction Force where we were responded to support the post perimeter units during enemy attacks.

I was hospitalized for an injured knee I received during one of the rocket attacks against Long Binh Post.

When my military commitment with the Army came to an end in June 1970 I was honorably discharged and returned to my job as a welder at the Caterpillar Tractor Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I decided to take advantage of the GI Bill, went to college, and obtained a degree in engineering. I received a promotion from welder to the Engineering Department and worked for Caterpillar until the plant closed 15 years later.

We then moved from Milwaukee to the Green Bay area and I started a career in law enforcement with the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy.

I worked for Oconto County for 13 years until bad health forced me into an early retirement from law enforcement 5 years ago. Since then I have been employed driving an armored truck, and I am really enjoying my work.

My wife of 34 years and I have raised two sons and a daughter. We are now looking forward to our retirement 11 years from now.
