SSG (MSG Retired) Robert J. Moak has since passed from our ranks and will be missed by all who knew and served with him.

SSG Bob Moak was a squad leader in my platoon. I remember him very well and speak of him often.

On my fifth day in Vietnam the commanding officer wanted me to take the convoy to Tay Ninh and SSG Moak was the noncommissioned officer in charge.

As the 1LT, I was technically in charge and SSG Moak was to point out all the check points and teach me the route, call signs, and everything else I needed to know to supervise the convoy.

Being a brand new rookie, and fortunately, aware of my limitations, I told SSG Moak that he was "a Lieutenant for the day and running the show."

There is a hell of a story to go with that day, but I will save it for his son Ron.

SSG Moak was an integral member of C Company, running convoy escorts in gun jeeps until we received the V-100 armored cars, and then helped me train other Battalion and 18th Brigade MPs in their use.

He was very knowledgeable and liked by his troops, and appreciated by his officers.

1LT Herb W. Bradley, IIIPlatoon Leader, C Company, 720th MP Battalion, October 1968 to September 1969.
