I graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School, Kenosha, Wisconsin in June of 1968. After attending the University of Wisconsin for the fall semester in 1968 I enlisted in the Army in May of 1969.

After basic training I attended Military Police School at Fort Gordon, Georgia, staying in the new Brems Barracks. Receiving orders for Vietnam.

I arrived at Bien Hoa Air Base on December 3, 1969 and was assigned to the 90th Replacement Battalion for three days awaiting orders. I was assigned to A Company, 720th MP Battalion, at Long Binh Post.

My initial assignment was working on Operation Nigh Overtake, escorting military and civilian convoys from Bien Hoa to the Newport Docks in Saigon. From December 1969 through March 1970, Night Overtake Convoys were ambushed approximately six times, on one, my V100 armored car was blown up by an enemy Rocket Propelled Grenade.

From April to June 1970 I was assigned long distance convoys to Cu Chi, Tay Ninh, and Dau Tieng, in support of the 25th Infantry Division.

From June to November 1970 I was sent to Phu Loi Basecamp and assigned to A Company, Detachment #2. Our mission was to provide discipline, law and order patrols on the base. Off base we patrolled in a combined unit of three, one American MP, one QC, (Quan Canh, ARVN MP), and one CS (Canh Sat, Vietnamese National Police), covering the Provincial City of Phu Cong. Our mission was to suppress black marketing, search for military deserters, and cover convoy check points.

On November 11, 1970 I left Vietnam and started duty with the 411th MP Company, 518th MP Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas.

From April 1971 through September 1971 I was detached and assigned to duty at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin to work with the National Guard.

On January 4, 1972 my tour with the Army was completed.

I have spent the last 27 years in law enforcement with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, holding the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and currently, Chief Deputy Sheriff, 2nd in command of the Department.
