Retired First Sergeant

          After I graduated from high school in June 1958, I volunteered for the U.S. Army and received my basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia from June to August. I then attended Military Police Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Thereafter, I was assigned to the 537th MP Co., Mannheim, Germany from December 58-December 1960.

        Prior to serving in Vietnam, some of my other duty stations were: January-May 1961, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; 12 June 1961 to 4 June 1964, 524th MP Company, Fort Shafter, Hawaii (Johnson & Christmas Islands), part of 1964, 591st MP Company, Fort Bliss, Texas, 23 November 1964 to 7 December 1965, 55th MP Company, Camp Red Cloud and Santa Barbara, Korea.

        From January 1966 to May 1967, 5/7th Field Artillery Battalion., Tappan, New York. 1 July 1967 to 6 March 1970, 385th MP Battalion, Stuttgart, Germany, and the 21st MP Detachment, Neu-Ulm, Germany. From April-October 1970, 54th MP Company, Fort Ord, California.

        In December 1970, I arrived in Vietnam as ordered and was assigned to the 615th MP Company, Long Binh Post. My duty assignments included Desk Sergeant, and Patrol Supervisor.

        Later I became Company Operations Sergeant. The Unit's responsibilities were to enforce the Uniform Code of Military Justice, discipline, law, and order, on Long Binh Post.

        After leaving Vietnam in November 1971, I was assigned to the 555th MP Company, 759th MP Battalion, Fort Dix, New Jersey from December 1971 to January 1973. My duty position was Platoon Sergeant.

        In February 1973, I was reassigned to the 385th MP Battalion., 21st MP Detachment, Augsburg, Germany as Platoon Sergeant and MPI Supervisor.

        In 1974, I relocated to Headquarters, 21st MP Detachment, Munich, Germany with duties as the South Bavaria MPI Supervisor.

        In May 1976, I was assigned to the 412th MP Company, 759th MP Battalion, Fort Dix, New Jersey with duties as Platoon Sergeant.

        From July 1977 to 9 Jun 1978, I was assigned to the 110th MP Company, Camp Ames, Korea, with duties as Company Physical Security NCO.

        In July 1978, I returned to HQ's, 759th MP Battalion, assigned as the Battalion S-3 NCO.

        In April I was laterally transferred from Master Sergeant to First Sergeant and was assigned to the 532d MP Company as First Sergeant.

        I retired from active duty on 1 May 1981. After retirement, I attended college and achieved Associate of Arts Degrees in Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Banking, Financing, and Marketing. I also worked as a Medical Clerk at the Dorns Veterans Medical Center, Cola, South Carolina for seven years and retired under medical conditions in 1976.
