LTC Larry B. Berrong, Jr.

Commanding Officer of the 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Brigade, III Corps
16 July 1982 to 17 July 1984

     On 16 July 1982 LTC Berrong assumed command of the Battalion from LTC Artis B. Mosley, Jr.

     The Battalion assets were stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

     On 17 July 1984 LTC Berrong passed command of the Battalion to LTC Paul A. Sowa.


     Colonel (Retired) Berrong was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from East Tennessee State University in December 1963. His military assignments include: Security Platoon Leader, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Anke, Vietnam; Platoon Leader, Company A, 716th MP Battalion, Saigon, Vietnam; Executive Officer and Commanding Officer, 205th MP Company, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Assistant S3, 16th Military Police Group, Nha Trang, Vietnam; Intelligence officer, 18th Military Police Brigade, Long Binh, Vietnam; Chief Task Analysis Branch, Combat and Training Development, U.S. Army Military Police School, Fort Gordon, Georgia; Executive Officer, Combat Developments, U.S. Army Military Police School, Fort McClellan, Alabama; Deputy Provost Marshal, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Executive Officer, 503rd Military Police Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Commander, Hawaii District, 6th Region Criminal Investigation Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Commander, 720th Military Police Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas; Chief Policy branch, Office of the Provost Marshal, U.S. Army Europe, Mannheim, Germany; Chief, Physical Security Division, office of the Provost Marshal, U.S. Army, Europe, Mannheim, West Germany; Commandant, U.S. Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Assistant Commandant, U.S. Army Military Police School, Fort McClellan, Alabama.

     Colonel Berrong’s military education includes the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and U.S. Army War College. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University and Master of Public Administration from the University of Georgia.

     His awards and decorations include; Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster; Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster; Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters; Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Ribbon with Palm, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab.
