On 16 July 1982 LTC Berrong assumed command of the Battalion from LTC Artis B. Mosley, Jr. The Battalion assets were stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. On 17 July 1984 LTC Berrong passed command of the Battalion to LTC Paul A. Sowa.
