LTC Frels assumed command of the Battalion in June 1996. The previous commander has yet to be identified.

        During her tour as battalion commander LTC Frels deployed with the Battalion in support of Operation Joint Endeavor, Joint Guard, Bosnia-Herzegovina. In June 1998 she passed command to LTC (P) David Phillips
