MAJ Smith received command of the Battalion on 3 November 1948 from LTC G. H. Meek. The Battalion assets were stationed in the Tokyo metropolitan area performing discipline, law and order duties. During his tour The Battalion started a new rotating operations system. |
Personnel turnover problems continued to plague the Battalion mission. To maintain morale the Battalion remained very active in military league competitive athletics programs. On 17 January 1949 he passed command to LTC Aubrey S. Kenworthy and became the Battalion Executive Officer. |
