LTC Stromfors served as Battalion Commander from 30 January 1970 to 30 July 1970. During his tour as commander the Battalion participated in: 18th MP Brigade OPLAN 2-69 "Switch," and 89th MP Group OPLAN 2-70 "Draw Down II." The 720th Expanded Operations Into IV Corps Tactical Zone. The 720th MP Battalion area of responsibility was increased to 65,000 square miles when the 188th MP Company and the 22nd Provost Marshals Detachment, were attached subordinate to the Battalion after their parent unit, the 92nd MP Battalion, was deactivated in Saigon. |
| With the addition, the 720ths strength was augmented by over 500 personnel from three newly assigned units. By 30 April the battalion had detachments placed in 16 locations and new provost marshal responsibilities were assumed in Xuan Loc, Phu Loi, Lai Khe, Cu Chi, Vung Tau, III Corps Tactical Zone, and in Vinh Long, Can Tho, Tan An, My Tho, Dong Tau, and Soc Trang, IV Corps Tactical Zone; Major General Karl W. Gustafson, Provost Marshal General, United States Army conducted a theater wide tour including the Battalion; Operation OVERTAKE is reassigned The 557th MP Company and 95th MP Battalion; Termination of Operation Stabilize ending the Battalion infantry mission in the Tactical Area Of Responsibility. On 30 July 1970 LTC Stromfors passed command to LTC Robert P. Schmitz.
