Tet, Vietnamese Lunar New Years Holiday

For several thousand years, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday celebration has been a tradition that brings the Vietnamese a sense of happiness, hope and peace. In 1968 the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong launched the bloodiest military campaign of the Vietnam War.

The "general offensive and general uprising" of the north marked the sharp turn of the Vietnam War.

The Tet Offensive broke out on the Tet's Eve - in the early morning of January 30, 1968 at many cities of Central Vietnam, as well as cities in the central coastal and highland areas, in the south, the attacks started 24 hours later in the early hours of January 31.

Although the U.S. news media reported the event as a Communist Victory it was in fact a crushing defeat for the north.
