AWARD OF THE MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION

1. TC 320. The following AWARD is announced.
By direction of the Secretary of the Army, under the provisions of paragraph 203, AR 672-5-

1, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (Third Oak Leaf Cluster) is awarded to the following named unit of the Unites States Army for exceptionally meritorious achievement in the performance of outstanding service during the period indicated:

The 720TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION and its attached unit, the 212th Military Police Company (Sentry Dog) (basic award) (15 February 1968 to 1 February 1969), distinguished themselves in support of military operations in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 9 February 1968 to 1 February 1969. The officers and men of the battalion demonstrated extraordinary dedication, tenacity and skill in providing outstanding military police support for Long Binh Post and the outlying areas. With initiative and resourcefulness, they overcame immense difficulties and successfully fulfilled the demanding requirements of their vital mission. Through their constant provision of security escorts for numerous supply convoys, and their successfully thwarted attempts of enemy aggression. Utilizing personnel and sentry dog teams as safeguards in Viet Cong-infested areas, the members of the 720TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION ensured effective nighttime perimeter security to strategic installations. Showing a concern for the local populace, they devoted substantial time and materials to civic action programs which greatly enhanced the health, education and welfare of the Vietnamese people. Through their coordinated efforts with other Free World military police units, they contributed immeasurably to the maintenance and stability of law and order and significantly advanced the allied effort against hostile aggression in the Republic of Vietnam. The remarkable proficiency and devotion to duty displayed by the members of the 720TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect distinct credit upon themselves and the Armed Forces of the United States.
