Citation: By direction of the Secretary of the Army, the Valorous Unit Award is awarded to:

401ST MILITARY POLICE COMPANY for extraordinary heroism in military operations against an armed enemy.

The 401st Military Police Company distinguished itself by gallantry in action against an armed enemy during the period 19 December 1989 to 3 January 1990 while conducting critical combat and combat support operations during Operation Just Cause. The soldiers of the 401st Military Police Company gallantly completed all tactical missions, frequently under small arms and mortar fire. This outstanding performance of duty was in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects great credit on them and the United States Army.
