Photo A0071: Statue dedicated to the soldiers of the Battalion who had lost their lives in World War II. The statue was carved by a local Japanese artist. It was presented by C Company to the 720th MP Battalion on Decoration Day (Memorial Day), 30 May 1947. The statue depicted a soldier, helmet strapped to his right wrist, feet spread apart. On 13 March 1948 when the headquarters moved, it was positioned at the front entrance of the Camp Burness main building (#100). No record has been found by the Battalion Reunion Association on the fate of the statue after the Battalion departed Japan on 21 February 1955. Courtesy of the 1952 720th MP Battalion Year Book. |
