Photo B0058: Bravo Company, 720th MP Battalion Cantonment at Oxford, Mississippi during their civil rights unrest deployment to protect James Meredith’s attendance at Old Mississippi College, from 16 May-9 July 1963. The deployed units were subordinate to the U.S. Armed Forces Oxford (USAFOX), provisional command. The six smaller signs hanging under the USAFOX sign identified the Battalion’s organic units that participated in the deployments from 1962-1963. Left-right they read: Co. B 720th MP Bn. 16 Nov-17 Dec 1962; Co. A 720 MP Bn. 18 Dec-6 Feb 1963; unable to read; unable to read; Co. A 720 MP Bn. 17 Apr-17 May 1963; Co. B 720 MP Bn. 16 May- blank. The name on the water tower to the far right is “Chamber [of Commerce],” and the street sign for the cantonment below it is “Parkway.” The NCOs and officers names left-right standing are: SSG unidentified, 720th MP Battalion; CPT Paul D. Kaufman, B Company; LT Dull, wearing 1st Logistics Command patch. Those squatting are: SSG Dent Rohrabaugh, B Company; SSG Braily (?spell), B Company; 1SG Miles R. Prieur, B Company.
