HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY Washington, DC, 20 December 1971 General Orders Number 55 I. REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM CIVIC ACTIONS MEDAL, FIRST CLASS, WITH OAK LEAF DEVISE. 1. The award of the Civil Actions Medal, First Class, with Oak Leaf Devise by the Republic of Vietnam to the units of the United States Army listed below is confirmed. 2. The Civil Actions Medal, First Class, with Oak Leaf Devise has been awarded by the Government of the Republic of Vietnam for outstanding service during the period 26 July 12969 to 20 July 1970 to: 3rd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division and its assigned and attached units. (483rd Military Police Platoon for period of 1 October 1969 to 20 July 1970) Citation reads as follows: Stationed in the Long An Sector of the Republic of South Vietnam from 26 July 1969 to 20 July 1970, the 3rd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division, in addition to its military efforts, has effectively assisted local authorities in the Pacification and Rural Development Program. The Brigade constructed homes, dispensaries, and schools and administered medical treatment to more than 200,000 patients. Additionally, the Brigade distributed large qualities of medicine, medical equipment, clothing, food, and construction material in an effort to ease the suffering and hardships endured by the local people. Through its many contributions, the 3rd Brigade, 9th Infantry has strengthened the bonds of friendship between the peoples of the Republic of South Vietnam and the United States of America.
