"No Matter Where, Wish I Was Home With My Family"
Christmas 1966, Long Binh
Christmas in Long Binh in 1966 was of course warm with no snow, but I wore a blue, wool shirt my girlfriend sent me for Christmas.
We had a small Christmas tree in our tent and we celebrated as best as we could. I was wishing I could be home with my family and friends in El Paso, Texas. I made plans for next Christmas in El Paso.
Three years ago while serving as a peacekeeper in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, I spent Christmas in Rome, Italy and attended Midnight Mass at the Vatican. Mass was of course given by the Pope.
The Christmas before that, I was a newly arrived peacekeeper in Kosovo. It was cold and lonely. I thought of the warm Christmas in Viet Nam, and again wished I was home with my family!
