The base, established in June 1966 was the home of the Headquarters of the 1ATF, who were the combat element of the Australian Army in South Vietnam and comprised a Brigade size force of Infantry, Artillery, Armor, Signal, Transport and other support units. |
The Australian Military Police unit at Nui Dat was part of the Royal Australian Army Provost Corp (RAA PRO) and belonged to the only Australian Military Police unit in South Vietnam, known as the Australian Force Vietnam Provost Unit (AFV PRO). The Provosts had a detachment of Military Police based there that were responsible for the 1st ATF Prisoner War compound, VIP Escorts, combined discipline, law and order patrols with ARVN and New Zeland MPs, highway security and base perimeter security patrols. |

1970 A Company MPs Assigned |
August to October A Company was tasked with assigning a three man Detachment to Nui Dat to support the Australian Military Police and U.S. personnel stationed there. U.S. Forces at Nui Dat at the time the detachment was assigned were elements of the 25th Aviation Battalion, 8th Field Ambulance and Troop A of the 3rd Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry. |
