The Tet New Years Offensive ~ January through June |
31 January-18 February the Battalion was suddenly tasked with providing convoy escorts, highway security support and enemy Prisoner of War confindment and security on Long Binh Post and to numerous Allied Forces throughout III Corps Tactical Zone. |
10 February The 615th MP Company was detached from the 720th MP Battalion and reassigned subordinate to the 95th MP Battalion on Long Binh Post. |

18 March SP/4 Fred D. Clark, HQ Detachment, was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service for the time period of July 1967 to March 1968 under 18th MP Brigade General Orders #214. |
16 April Brigadier General Karl W. "Big Gus" Gustafson, Commanding Officer of the 18th Military Police Brigade and The USARV Provost Marshal General, authorized the presentation of a Certificate of Achievement to all members of the 720th MP Battalion for their Meritorious Performance of Duty during the Tet Offensive from 31 January to 10 February 1968. |
17 May Battalion SMG Kenneth E. Kidd is reassigned to the 89th MP Group and is replaced by CSM Ralf W. Heimbuecher. |
15 June The men of HQ Detachment, 720th MP Battalion named their newly finished day room on Long Binh Post, "Kidd's Place" in honor of SMG Kenneth E. Kidd (Killed In Action 5 June), who encouraged them to build it before his death. |
3 July MAJ David I. Bertocci assumed the duties of Battalion Operations (S3) Officer. |
20 July to 15 August Elements of the 3,000 man Royal Thai Army, Black Panther Division arrived in Vietnam and was transported from the Saigon docks to the Bear Cat Base Camp under the security of C Company convoy escort units during Operation CONDOR-II. |
30 July Major John C. Blair assumed the duties as the new Battalion Executive Officer (XO) from MAJ Fred J. Villella. |
10 August CPT Carl F. Hopp assumed the duties as Battalion Adjutant (S1). |
