G0311:7The burned out hulk of 720th MP Battalion, C Company, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade V100 Armored Commando Car C54 sits at the Battalion Motor Pool on Long Binh Post. It was destroyed during a North Vietnamese Army ambush of the 1st Infantry Division Quan Loi convoy escort on “Thunder Road” in Binh Long Province, III Corps Tactical Zone, South Vietnam on 28 April 1969. The vehicle was struck by a Rocket Propelled Grenade through the right rear wheel well along with .51 caliber heavy machine gun fire. The three crew members, SGT John A. Golembeuski, SP/4 John C. Mitchell and PFC Kenneth A. Wilborn, although wounded and burned, managed to escape. Courtesy of 1LT Herbert W.
