G0858: Remains of the patrol jeep struck by a contract vehicle operated by a Vietnamese civilian driver during an Operation OVERTAKE Night escort on Highway 1A in III Corps Tactical Zone, Vietnam on 6 February 1970. The crew from A Company, 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade, PFC Joseph R. Hardee (IC) died from his injuries, PFC Charles Whyte (machine gunner) and SP/4 David M. Erwin (driver), were both severely injured but recovered. The contractor vehicle, operating without its headlights on, was attempting to rejoin the convoy after leaving his load with Black Marketers.
