"I was married for a couple of years before I went into the army in April of 1966. My brother Fred enlisted in March, and was in the Signal Corps when I went to Vietnam. He was single and felt like I should be in the states, and that he should be in Vietnam. Fred decided to change his MOS, and went to MP school with the agreement that he would replace me. The problem was that I was a 3 year enlistee and was sent to Vietnam right out of MP School. I figured that I had a good piece of my tour done, and that if I didn't finish it I had a good chance of going back to Vietnam after Fred finished his tour. That's how we wound up as two brothers in-country at the same time. My mother took it in her head that it would be nice if we could get together, and she contacted the Red Cross. Fred flew to Saigon, and I had a jeep for transportation so I picked him up. I was working 12 hour days, missed some sleep, but was able to show him around Saigon for a couple of days."
