Photo G2167: This truck was ambushed in the pre-dawn hours near "gasoline alley" in 1968.  The truck was discovered by Tu Duc Detachment combined MP, Vietnamese Quan Canh, Canh Sat highway recon patrol before dawn.  The truck was carrying empty sand bags, and the driver was KIA.  Incidents such as this sparked a requirement that all vehicles have MP escort, when traveling north from Newport Bridge.
