Photo G2508: This U.S. Navy truck was once loaded with pallets of beer when it was stolen by its Vietnamese contract driver while being transported on Highway-1A during an Operation OVERTAKE convoy from the Newport Military Docks in Gia Dinh Province, III Corps Tactical Zone, Vietnam sometime in May-June of 1968. An A Company, 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade Operation OVERTAKE jeep gave chase and lost sight of it when it turned off the highway. They again located it abandoned about 15 minutes later, and by then half the load and all of the gasoline in its tank was missing. It was recovered off of Highway-317 north of the Battalion's Tactical Area Of Responsibility in Bien Hoa Province which borders the southern perimeter of Long Binh Post. Courtesy of SGT Philip J.
