During his tour with A Company Art worked assignments on Highway Patrol, POW Hospital Guard Detail, Ambush & Recon and Outpost #4 in Long Binh Tahn.

        Art was also instrumental in the rescue of the 18th MP Group Commander, COL Francis E. "Frank" Payne from his downed helicopter on 5 June 1968. For his actions that day Art was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Valor.
