        John arrived in Viet Nam in December 1971, and was assigned to A Company at Long Binh.

       He was trained to be an MP at Fort Gordon, but since he could type and had two years of college, he was assigned to be the Operations Clerk. John also drove for the company commander and operations sergeant.

        John served in A Company until it stood down in June 1972, and was reassigned to the 615th MP Company to finish his tour. When Johns tour ended he was reassigned to the 401st (A Company) MP Company, 720th MP Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas where he served until his enlistment ended in March 1973.
