During WWII all photographs were developed at official Army facilities and, before they were released to the soldier they had to be reviewed by Base Examiners (censors) who eliminated any that were deemed sensitive areas or specifically identified the locations in which they were taken. The same process was used to censor all outgoing mail and information written on the back of the photographs. All items found in violation were confiscated or the inappropriate information was "cut out." The locations identified in the text of photographs listed below was either obtained from the original soldiers or added through a process of matching all currently available historical information in the History Project Archives.
