Paupa Campaign

2 November A detachment of sixteen men from D Company departed Townsville, Australia for Oro Bay aboard the Dutch freighter Van Spillbergan. No provision's were made for meals on the ship galley so the detachment had to eat C-Rations during the transport.

7 November Battalion HQ, HQ Detachment and A & B Company departed Australia for Port Moresby, and Milne Bay, New Guinea aboard the USS Robert Stewart.

 

9 November After a stop at Milne Bay to disembark B Company, the sixteen man detachment from D Company arrived at Oro Bay, New Guinea.

B Company was assigned to construct a Prisoner of War stockade at Alioma, just outside of Milne Bay.

14 November Twelve Japanese bombers attacked Oro Bay but did little damage.

29 November D Company completed its transfer from Australia to Oro Bay, New Guinea. Instead of traveling as a company unit they split into small detachments and traveled onboard cargo transport vessels providing shipboard security.
