0045 hours, Guard Inspection 12:45 AM, SGT Hansen, 89th MP Group, Sergeant of The Guard, advised this office by phone that LT Matinelli, Commanding Officer of the 52nd Infantry Company, Officer of The Day, and himself (Hansen) had found a guard from 615th MP Company, asleep on his post. The guard was relieved of duty and replaced by another guard from the 615th. 0130 hours, Operation SHOTGUN 1:30 AM, SP/4 Randall E. Shover, B Company, departed with one escort team, for the 90th Replacement Battalion for escort to Bien Hoa Air Base. 0245 hours, Guard Challenged, Shots Fired 2:45 AM, SGT Keith D. Allen, Desk Sergeant at Bien Hoa Provost Marshals Office, notified this office by phone that at approximately 0120 hours (1:20 AM), this date a guard on a security post reported he had seen a couple of men walking towards the fence line of his post. He attempted to halt same but they continued toward his post so he fired a round and they ran. Then at 0145 hours (1:45 AM), the National Police Captain reported to the desk and said that a man had been shot and was in the hospital. A further check revealed that a 12 year old boy had been shot in the stomach by what appeared to be an M-16 round. The guard fired an M-14 round. Spot report submitted to 89th MP Group by 179th MP Detachment, CPT Thomas Schooley, [C Company] Staff Duty Officer, Major Francis L. Brokaw, Battalion Operations Officer, and CPT Leon C. Matassarin Assistant Operations officer notified at 0730 hours (7:30 PM). 0400 hours, Tay Ninh Convoy 4:00 AM, 1LT Kenneth G. Orth, B Company and SGT Roland A. Bellerose, C Company, departed for convoy escort to Tay Ninh. Nine gun jeeps and 27 MPs were utilized. 0430 hours, SDO Relieved 4:30 AM, SSG Paul F. Roach, C Company, Staff Duty Noncommissioned Officer, was relieved by SFC Clarence L. Broome, Battalion Operations. 0445 hours, Hospital Guard Report 4:45 AM, SGT J. T. Cartee, B Company, NCOIC of the Hospital Guard, advised this office that the POW report remained as 62 POWs and 30 MP Guards. |
0515 hours, Bien Hoa Detachment 5:15 AM, LT Bosse, 615th MP Company, advised this office that he checked the Bien Hoa MP Desk and Highway 1-A patrols, all were secure. |
0530 hours, POW Guard Report 5:30 AM, the POW and Guard report was furnished to SGT ORouke, 89th MP Group, 62 POWs and 30 MP Guards. 0610 hours, NCOIC Hospital Guard Relieved 6:10 AM, SGT J. T. Cartee, NCOIC of the Hospital Guard advised this office that his tour of duty had been completed without incident. Debriefed by SGT James L. Gillock, B Company. 0700 hours, NCOIC Perimeter Guard Relieved 7:00 AM, SGT Maurice Irish, A Company, NCOIC of the Long Binh Post Perimeter Guard, arrived at this office and stated his tour of duty had been completed without incident. 0710 hours, Operation SHOTGUN 7:10 AM, SP/4 Randall E. Shover, B Company, advised this office that the escort from the 90th Replacement Battalion to Bien Hoa Air Base had been completed without incident. 0720 hours, Tay Ninh Convoy 7:20 AM, MSG Nunn, Operations, 89th MP Group, advised this office that there was a plane standing by at II Field Forces (IIFF) for convoy air cover to Cu Chi. He stated that he had just been notified that the plane was available. CPT Leon C. Matassarin [HQ Detachmant] notified and the plane canceled due to the convoy being to far ahead at this time. 0805 hours, Water Request 8:05 AM, CPT Weston, 615th MP Company, advised this office that the shower was out of water. MAJ Francis L. Brokaw, Battalion Operations, and CPT Robert Folster, Battalion Supply, notified. |
0815 hours, POW Escort Request 8:15 AM, SSG Gilchrest, IIFF, notified this office to pick up POW, Tran Van On from the 199th Light Infantry Brigade (199LIB), at Binh Chan and take him to the cage on 15 May. He stated that on 12 May 67 the NCOIC of the POW compound at the 199LIB was absent and the person in charge at that time did not know that POW, Tran Van On was ready for transfer. 0910 hours, Operation RIFLE 9:10 AM, SGT Nishomoto, 561st Ambulance Company, requested an escort for medical evacuation patients from the 24th Evacuation Hospital to Tan Son Nhut Air Base at 1330 hours (1:30 PM). SP/4 Van Elswick, C Company, notified. 0925 hours, POW Escort Request 9:25 AM, CPT Thomas, Operations, 89th MP Group, requested two MP's by name, rank, serial number and unit to go to Da Nang by helicopter to pick up one Viet Cong prisoner and return him to the CMIC [Central Military Intelligence Command] in Saigon. SSG Ilmer, A Company, notified. Names of personnel given to CPT Thomas were, SP/4 Feehan and SP/4 Gary C. Watts. 1050 hours, Escort Request 10:50 AM, SGT Watroun, Operations, 64th Quartermaster Battalion, contacted this office by phone and requested an escort for some fire fighting equipment from Gate #2 Long Binh Post to Tan San Nhut Air Base. He was informed to contact Bien Hoa Provost Marshals Office. 1130 hours, New SDNCO 11:30 AM, SFC Donn S. Gilray, B Company, was briefed on Duties as SDNCO by MSG Dupree [HQ Detachment]. 1215 hours, Water Request 12:15 PM, SFC Ingram, 615th MP Company, advised this office that their shower was out of water. Battalion water truck driver notified. |
1328 hours, Operation RIFLE 1:28 PM, SGT Nishomoto, 561st Ambulance Company, requested an escort for medical evacuation patients from the 24th Evacuation Hospital to Tan Son Nhut Air Base at 1530 hours (3:30 PM). SP/4 Kenneth P. Laux, C Company notified. 1400 hours, Water Request 2:00 PM, SFC Donn S. Gilray [B Company], SDNCO, checked with the 615th MP Company and learned that their shower had water. 1405 hours, Water Request 2:05 PM, SP/4 Tritt, 18th MP Brigade, advised this office that their shower was out of water. 1415 hours, POW & Guard Inspection 2:15 PM, CPT Leon C. Matassarin, Operations, advised this office that he had inspected POW Ward #7, 24th Evacuation Hospital at 1130 hours (11:30 AM), there were no deficiencies. 1420 hours, NCOIC Hospital Guard Relieved 2:20 PM, SGT James L. Gillock, B Company, advised this office that he had completed his tour of duty as the Noncommissioned Officer In Charge, of the Hospital Guard, without incident. There was no change in the POW count status. 1430 hours, Tan An Convoy 2:30 PM, SGT Ronald G. Ratliff, A Company, returned to this office from the Tan An Convoy escort and stated the escort had been completed without incident. 1445 hours, Tay Ninh Convoy 2:45 PM, MSG Nunn, Operations, 89th MP Group, advised this office that the air craft for the Tay Ninh Convoy cover would have to be requested for 0645 hours (6:45 AM), instead of 0615 hours (6:15 AM), due to the lack of landing lights on the airfield. |
1500 hours, POW Escort 3:00 PM, MAJ Francis L. Brokaw, Battalion Operations, advised this office that CPT Thomas, Operations, 89th MP Group, notified this office that the aircraft for POW escort from Da Nang to CMIC was not available. 1SG Julius E. Givens, A Company, notified. 1635 hours, Tay Ninh Convoy 4:35 PM, MSG Nunn, Operations, 89th MP Group, advised this office that the aircraft for air cover of the Tay Ninh Convoy to Cu Chi was confirmed for 0645 hours (6:45 AM). MAJ Francis L. Brokaw, Operations and LTC Kenneth Weinstein, Battalion CO, notified. 1750 hours, Perimeter Guard Inspection 5:50 PM, SGT McKinney, C Company, Long Binh Post Perimeter Guard, NCOIC, advised this office that the guards were all present for inspection. CPT Ronald K. Riggs, A Company, SDO, notified. 1810 hours, Tay Ninh Convoy 6:10 PM, 1LT Kenneth G. Orth, B Company, OIC, Tay Ninh Convoy escort, arrived at this office and stated the escort had been completed without incident except for one minor traffic accident, no injuries. Debriefed by MAJ Francis L. Brokaw and report obtained from SGT Roland A. Bellerose [C Company], convoy NCOIC. 1845 hours, Bien Hoa Detachment 6:45 PM, LT McLendon, 615th MP Company, advised this office that he was proceeding to Bien Hoa to check the patrols. 1850 hours, SDNCO Relieved 6:50 PM, SSG Marion K. Lord, 615th MP Company, relieved SFC Donn S. Gilray, B Company, of duties as Battalion SDNCO. 1945 hours, Operation SHOTGUN 7:45 PM, SP/4 Dowling of the 90th Replacement Battalion, requested an escort from the 90th to Bien Hoa Air Base at 2400 hours (midnight). SP/4 Randall E. Shover, B Company, notified. 2030 hours, Interior Guard Report 8:30 PM, SSG Kenneth McClain, B Company, advised this office that he had checked the hospital guards, Long Binh Post MP Desk and patrols, and Gate #2, all were secure. 2315 hours, Operation SHOTGUN 11:15 PM, SP/4 Dowling, 90th Replacement Battalion requested an escort from the 90th to Bien Hoa Air Base at 0130 hours, (1:30 AM), 14 May 1967.
