Casualties Operation EMPORIA Convoy Ambush Elements of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR), escorted by ten MP's from the 615th MP Company, 720th MP Battalion, were ambushed by two battalions of the 275th Viet Cong Main Force Regiment, 5th NVA Division, along Inter Provisional Route 20 in Long Kahn Province.

The convoy was pinned down in the open roadway for approximately two hours and received heavy small arms, automatic weapons, and anti armor weapons fire.

The attack was finally broken when supporting elements of the 11th ACR arrived to assist the embattled convoy. Seven of the ten MP's from the 615th  were wounded in the fight.

The 11th ACR suffered a total (including the reaction force) of 15 troopers KIA (Killed In Action) including their convoy element company commander, 47 WIA (Wounded In Action), with a total of 1 tank damaged, 4 other vehicles damaged, and 3 other vehicles destroyed. Viet Cong losses were 193 KIA and 1 POW (Prisoner of War) captured.

The 615th MPs would later be awarded 3 Silver Stars, 5 Bronze Stars for Valor, and 7 Purple Hearts for their heroic actions during the battle.
