31 August After 18 days of inactivation since leaving South Vietnam on 13 August 1972, the 720th MP Battalion was reactivated when the 518th MP Battalion was redesignated as the 720th MP Battalion, 5th Army, III Corps, LTC Gerald G. Gibbons, Commanding, during ceremonies at Fort Hood, Texas.
