The Reverend Dr. King entered the Christian ministry and was ordained in February 1948. During the same year he became the Assistant Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1954 he left Atlanta and accepted the pastoral position at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama until 1959. He moved back to Atlanta and directed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference until his death. Dr. King held many honors, degrees, and served on the boards of numerous institutions and agencies during his lifetime. However he will be most remembered throughout the United States and the world, for his leadership and non-violence approach to the great Civil Rights movement of the 1950 and 60s. |
