SGT Thomas Jefferson Butler, IV Killed In Action ~ 1 October 2012 ~ Afghanistan

At approximately 0900 hours, SGT’s Thomas J. Butler IV age 25 of Leland, Donna R. Johnson age 29 of Raeford, and Jeremy F. Hardison age 23 of Browns Sumit, all of the 514th MP Company, ARNG North Carolina, had just exited their vehicle to conduct a joint Afghan-U.S. foot patrol in the market area of the city of Khost in eastern Afghanistan when a Taliban motorcycle driver detonated his suicide vest. The resulting explosion killed the three members of the company, wounded three others, killed an Afghan translator working with the American troops, four local police officers and six civilians. About 60 Afghan civilians were also injured. |
