     AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL -- By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (sec. II, WD Bul. 3.1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V: devise for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following-names enlisted men:

Private First Class HAROLD R, FARNSWORTH, RA15272364, Military Police Corps, United States Army, a member of the X Corps Military Police Company (Provisional).

Private Farnsworth was on duty at a traffic regulation point, detailed to control traffic around the village of Hagaru'ri, Korea, from 27 November 1950 to 3 December 1950. When completely surrounded by the enemy and without further orders, Private Farnsworth volunteered to assist in the defense of the position, during extremely cold weather and while under heavy attack by enemy forces. In addition to his voluntary duties as guard, he further volunteered to assist in the evacuation wounded from the Chosin Reservoir area, and in the face of enemy fire from the surrounding hills, proceeded to advance into enemy territory and helped wounded men to a point of safety.

Entered Federal service from West Virginia.
