AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL -- By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (sec. II, WD Bul. 3.1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V: devise for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following-named enlisted men:
Corporal JAMES C. FOSTER, RA44017968, Military Police Corps, United States Army, a member of the X Corps Military Police Company (Provisional).
Corporal Foster was on duty at a traffic regulation point, detailed to control traffic around the village of Hagaru'ri, Korea, from 27 November 1950 to 3 December 1950. When completely surrounded by the enemy and without further orders, Corporal Foster volunteered to assist in the defense of the position, during extremely cold weather and while under heavy enemy attack by armed forces. In addition to his voluntary duties as guard, he further volunteered to assist in the evacuation of wounded from the Chosin Reservoir area. In the face of enemy fire from the surrounding hills, he advanced into enemy territory and carried wounded to a point of safety, from which they were evacuated by jeep.
