~ 720th Military Police Battalion Vietnam History Project ~

"Blackhorse Base Camp was carved out of dense and rugged jungle that was located at Long Giao, 10 miles South of the Vietnamese village of Xuan Loc in the Province of Long Khanh on Highway 2.

It was the home of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and its supporting units like, "Thunderhorse" Air Cavalry Troop, "Red Devils" 919th Engineer Company (Armor), Headquarters and Headquarters Troop and the 37th Medical Company. This is from a former Donut Dollie (Ruth) who had been to Long Gaio.

Also a friend from the Blackhorse says the name Long Gaio was replaced with the name Blackhorse on later maps.

Further refinement: 10 miles south of Xuan Loc, and while there once had been a sizeable village, most people were long gone by the time Blackhorse moved in. The 11th Cavalry allowed few civilians on the base, no mamasan’s, for instance, no general grounds crews--handful at the PX, and I remember hearing about the barber, a guy said he was the best barber he'd ever gone to, was a shame he had to shoot him in Loch Nihn where he turned out to be on the other side." SP/4 George Long, B Company, 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade, 1970-1971.
