Photo G3518a A well hidden Viet Cong bunker used as a way station in a tree covered cove of a tributary stream that feeds the Buong River along the northeastern border of the 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade Tactical Area Of Responsibility in III Corps Tactical Zone, Bien Hoa Provence, Vietnam. On 22 November 1968, a combined search team consisting of three squads of the battalion’s B Company ambush platoon located the bunker through intelligence information obtained from a VC they captured several days before. The VC Lieutenant Nguyen Van Thi was using the bunker to facilitate surveillance and planning operations for the future 22 February 1969 Post Tet Holiday attack of Long Binh Post by the 3rd Battalion of the 274th VC Main Force Regiment, 5th NVA Division.
