1966 In June the 24th Evacuation Hospital (Semi-mobile) was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas when the initial orders to deploy to Vietnam were issued.
 
10 July The main body of personnel arrived at Cam Rahn Bay on the USS Wiegel. They were immediately airlifted to Bien Hoa Air Base, then moved to the hospital's new location on the large US military base at Long Binh.
 
20 July The equipment and vehicles of the 24th arrive at the port of Saigon.  Within 48 hours, the entire unit is at Long Binh Post.

1967 In January the 24th Evac began accepting patients.  The personnel assigned at the time included 30 doctors, 60 nurses, 8 administrative officers, 1 warrant officer, and 225 enlisted personnel.  The 24th began the year with 200 beds, but expanded to 400 by year's end. In its first year of operation, the 24th Evac treated 9,010 patients.  Over 5,900 received surgical care and 3,000 patients received medical care.  Of the over 9,000 patients, 1,400 were evacuated back to the United States and 2,400 were transferred to in-country medical facilities.  Approximately 3,782 were returned to active duty.
 
1972 In November the 24th Evacuation Hospital (Semi-mobile) ended its service in Vietnam.
