LTC Zane V. Kortum

Commanding Officer of the 720th MP Battalion, 18th MP Brigade
10 March 1968 to 7 June 1968 ~ Republic of South Vietnam

     LTC Kortum served as Battalion Commander from 10 March 1968 to 7 June 1968. LTC Kortum was reassigned as acting commander of the 89th MP Group prior to moving to the USARV Provost Marshal Staff.

    During his tour as commander the Battalion participated in: Operations in defense of the Communist 5-13 May "Mini-Tet Offensive in III Corps Tactical Zone; Continued influx of enemy POW's captured and wounded during the Tet and Mini Tet Counter Offensives in III and IV Corps Tactical Zones;

     Increased enemy offensive operations in the Battalion Tactical Area Of Responsibility (TAOR); Acquisition of the one-hundred and sixteen man 301st National Police Field Forces Company to be temporarily integrated into the Battalion operations in the TAOR; Inspection of Battalion operations by the 18th MP Brigade Commander and USARV Provost Marshal General, BG Karl W. Gustafson.

On 7 June 1968 LTC Kortum passed command to LTC Baxter M. Bullock.
