Commanding Officer of the 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Brigade
15 June 2006 to 20 August 2008

On 15 June 2006 LTC Rangel received command of the Battalion from LTC Robert M. Taradash. On 20 August 2008 LTC Rangel passed command to LTC David J. Segalla, Jr.

        LTC Rangel commanded HQ Detachment during its deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom-07/09, where they served subordinate to the 89th and 18th MP Brigades in the Baghdad area during the surge operations of 2007-2008.

Photographs

        A native of Casa Grande, Arizona, LTC Rangel entered active  duty in the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman in June 1982. Upon his release from active duty in July 1988, he entered the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Eastern New Mexico University.  In May 1990, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Military Police Corps.  His initial operational assignment was as a Platoon Leader in the 534th MP Company, Fort Clayton, Panama.  He served in the unit until March 1993, when he was assigned as the Assistant S3 Officer for Training in the 92d MP Battalion.  In June 1994, LTC Rangel was assigned as an Assistant S3 Officer in the 728th MP Battalion, Camp Henry, Taegu, Republic of Korea.  In December 1994, he assumed command of the 142d MP Company in Seoul and served in that position until his departure in June 1996.  LTC Rangel then reported for duty as the Senior MP Observer-Controller at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.

        In July 1999, LTC Rangel was selected for the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intern Program and reported to the Pentagon for duty on the Joint Staff as the Politico-Military Desk Officer, Southeast Asia, Asia-Pacific Division, J-5.  In July 2000, he reported to the Army Staff for duty as a Mobilization Operations Officer, Operations Division, in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel.  In June 2002, LTC Rangel was assigned to the 89th MP Brigade as the Brigade S3.  In June 2003, he reported for duty as the Executive Officer, 720th MP Battalion, Task Force Ironhorse, Tikrit, Iraq.  After redeploying to Fort Hood with the 720th in March 2004, LTC Rangel was  assigned as the Executive Officer, 336th MP Battalion, FOB Red Lion, Ashraf, Iraq, in June 2004.  Upon his redeployment, he assumed duties as the 89th MP Brigade Executive Officer in February 2005.  LTC Rangel was assigned as the Deputy Brigade Commander in May 2005.

        LTC Rangel has a Bachelors Degree from Eastern New Mexico University and a Masters of Business Administration from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.  He is a graduate of the MP Officer Basic and Advance Courses as well as the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth.

        His awards include the Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Parachutist’s Badge, German Efficiency Badge in Silver, the Army Staff Badge, the Joint Staff Badge and various other individual and unit awards.  LTC Rangel is a recipient of the GEN Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award, as well as the Military Police Regimental Association’s Order of The Marechaussee in Bronze.     

        LTC Rangel is married to the former Roberta Ann Radasevich.  They have twin daughters, Sarah Marie and Samantha Lee, who attend college in Central Texas, and the family has a nine year old Fox Terrier named “Pica.”  LTC Rangel’s hobbies include fishing, golfing, hunting, and reading..
