SP/4 John H. Morris, Jr. died as the result of a vehicle crash in Lam Dong Provence during their return from the Bao Loc convoy escort. The disabled Armored Personnel Carrier was being transported downhill on a lowboy when it lost control. The crew was thrown from the APC and it rolled over on SP/4 Morris who was the rear gunner.

On 23 July 1971 SP/4 Morris was burried at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO, Section I – Grave # 1689
