Since 20 January 1942 the soldiers of the 720th Military Police Battalion have proudly represented our country while standing duty with boots on the ground in the following countries and territories. On these deployments they have honorably served with distinction, pride, and valor when engaged in our national defense, rendering humanitarian assistance, and providing security or training.

When the Battalion was activated on 10 January 1942 for World War II, it consisted of HQ Company, A, B, C, D Companies, and a Medical Detachment.

During the Vietnam War the Battalion organic units consisted of HQ Detachment and three letter companies, A, B and C. Subordinate units that suffered casualties while attached to the Battalion were the 615th MP Company and 188th MP Company.

After returning to the United States from Vietnam the letter companies reverted to their historical numerical designation. A Company became the 401st MP Company, B Company became the 410th MP Company, and C Company became the 411th MP Company.

In 1989 Battalion units were assigned for security duty in Panama in the Canal Zone on a rotation schedule. During the start of Operation Just Cause it was the 401st MP Company.
