our deaths are not ours,
they are yours,
they will mean what
you make of them.

At approximately 0900 hours, SGT’s Jeremy F. Hardison age 23 of Browns Sumit, Thomas J. Butler IV age 25 of Leland, and Donna R. Johnson age 29 of Raeford, all of the 514th MP Company, ARNG North Carolina, had just exited their vehicle to conduct a joint Afghan-U.S. foot patrol in the market area of the city of Khost in eastern Afghanistan when a Taliban motorcycle driver detonated his suicide vest. The resulting explosion killed the three members of the company, wounded three others, killed an Afghan translator working with the American troops, four local police officers and six civilians. About 60 Afghan civilians were also injured.
