In 1971 the 615th was primarily responsible for Discipline, Law and Order Patrols, staffing the Provost Marshal Office (179th MP Detachment) and Gate Security on Long Binh Post. 5 August SGT Frank H. Bunyan was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. |

 5 December SP/4 Roger Lee Christensen, age 20, of Macon, MO, died from injuries received as the result of a vehicle crash on Highway 1A, along the northern border of Long Binh Post in Bien Hoa Province. |
