The following Scout Dogs were members of the 212th MP Company (Sentry Dog), Scout Dog Unit during the Vietnam War. The K9's and their MP handlers worked side by side with the members of the combined 720th MP Battalion Ambush and Recon Squads in 1967 and early 1968, and B Company Ambush and Recon Platoon from 26 June 1968 through July 1970 in the 720th MP Battalion Tactical Area of Responsibility during Operation STABILIZE. They have the proud distinction of being the first and only Military Police Sentry Dog Unit in the history of the United States Army to be assigned a Scout Dog infantry mission. The only sad note to this proud history is that due to Army regulations at the time, all of these dedicated K9's were left behind when allied forces departed South Vietnam.

Heidi
On 23 February 1969 Heidi was part of the reinforced B Company, 720th MP Battalion, Ambush Team #76 assigned to Hill-15 as a forward observation point during the Post Tet attack on the southern perimeter of Long Binh Post. She was instrumental in alerting the ambush team to an attempt by enemy forces trying to assault the hill through the heavily wooded west side where she was assigned. Her alert allowed the MPs to stop the enemy assault with grenades and rifle fire before it could gain its objective.
Hobo
In 1968 Hobo was wounded while walking point for a 720th MP Battalion ambush and recon team when he tripped a Viet Cong antipersonnel mine saving the MP's from serious injury. Hobo was airlifted from the field to a Vet Technician, recovered from his shrapnel wounds, and later returned to duty.

Princess
Princess was a smaller female, about 55 pounds, but she often just acted like she had a bad temper. She was pretty feisty, and very fast.
Rex

A former Infantry K9 before being trained with the 212th Scout Dog Unit, Rex had a reputation for being high spirited and aggressive and often had to wear a muzzle while on field missions.

Unfortunately Rex died from an illness in 1968, however, he lived up to his reputation by getting in one last bite on the Vet Technician that was attending him before he died.
