Quan Loi Convoy Ambushed |
1115 Hours, C Company elements were escorting a 1st Infantry Division resupply convoy to Quan Loi on Thunder Road (Hwy QL-13) when the enemy launched an ambush from fortified positions. They sprung the ambush with a barrage of small arms, automatic weapons and RPG’s, disabling several supply trucks. As the fighting raged on around them, the trail escort driven by SP/4 Daniel B. Wyatt, without regard for their own personal safety, traveled along the enemy kill-zone exposed to enemy fire while delivering suppression fire, picking up the wounded, and transporting them to an evacuation point where they were able to position their vehicle to protect the casualties and provide security until they were extracted. The 1st Infantry Division recommended the escorts for awards for their actions. In September, SP/4 Wyatt and the other escort members (yet to identified) were presented the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. |
