At the start of the year Battalion HQ Detachment, its organic letter companies (minus Bravo Company) and the 212th MP Company (Sentry Dog) were headquartered subordinate to the 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade, III Corps Tactical Zone, Bien Hoa Province, Long Binh Post, South Vietnam.

Bravo Company was headquartered at Vinh Long, in Vinh Long Province, and the 22nd Provost Marshal Detachment at Can Tho in Phong Dinh Province, both in IV Corps Tactical Zone, Mekong Delta Region.

4 March

     The Battalion was assigned to provide escort security for the Phan Thiet Convoy. The town of Phan Thiet lies approximately 120 miles East-Northeast of Saigon on the South China Sea. It was located at the very southeastern point of II Corps. During the months of March and April the Phan Thiet Convoy was being run twice weekly.

6 March

     The Battalion ended its responsibility for escort and security duties for the Song Be Convoy.

7 March

     CPT Charles J. Rizzo Commanding Officer of Headquarters Detachment departed the Battalion.

10 March
     SP/4 Charles "David" Spruell of C Company wrote home quite frequently. He compiled a personal journal of his tour in South Vietnam and provided to the Battalion Reunion Association History Project his notes in reference to his participation in convoy escort duty from 10 March to 7 November 1971. 12 March

     The Battalion ended its responsibility for escort and security duties for the Phuoc Vinh Convoy.

18 March

    The Battalion Selective Enforcement Traffic Teams (SETT), were augmented with 12 additional personnel and its activities expanded to include drug suppression throughout Corps Tactical Zones (CTZ) III and IV.

22 March

     1SG Donald R. Davis is assigned to B Company.

24 March

     A letter of appreciation for providing outstanding service for convoy escort operations was received from the Headquarters, 6th Transportation Battalion (Truck), 48th Transportation Group.

     The letter stated that the 720th MP Battalion MP’s went far beyond their primary duty requirements, providing the convoys with needed communications support, expert assistance in movement control, effective coordination with air support, and enthusiastic cooperation in other types of support requested of them by the convoy commanders, and did so with a willing cooperation in the conduct of their duties and with utmost professionalism.

     Mentioned in the letter were, SSG Steffenson, SSG Staats, SGT Devereaux, SGT Stoner, SGT Joiner, SP/4 Lopresti, and SP/4 Owens from C Company; and SSG Hardy, SGT Barbour, SP/4 Baer, SP/4 Armstrong, and SP/4 San Nicholas from A Company.
