And I Didn't Run Down Any Buildings

February 1968 Just to let you know that A Company did have tracks [APC’s]. I started driving one just a few days after Tet (30 January) started in 1968. We ran convoys to Tay Ninh at first. We did this for quite awhile.

I can remember going over Newport Bridge with part of the span missing on my first trip to Tay Ninh on my first day of driving the track. Later on we ran the Xaun Loc Convoy for a while until both of our tracks finally gave up due to mechanical problems.

In fact the last trip we ran to Xuan Loc we had to be pulled back to Long Binh Post because the transmission gave out.

We ran the tracks for maybe 3 or 4 months, but I am not sure.

I was qualified to run the track by a Sergeant from Blackhorse [11th Armored Cavalry Regiment] because I drove around the "block" and didn't run down any buildings.

Both of our tracks were "reconditioned" in Japan and then sent to us.
