MAJ Packard received command of the Battalion from MAJ Arthur J. Wajnowski on 3 October 1944 in New Guinea.

        The Battalion assets were stationed in Port Moresby, Milne Bay, Oro Bay, Finchhaven, and Hollandia, New Guinea, engaged in base patrol, ship and dockside security, and guarding military installation's, a stockade and enemy POW's.

On 26 November 1944 he passed command to MAJ Philip J. Reilly.
