On 6 April 1944 MAJ Wajnowski assumed command of the Battalion at New Guinea.

        The Battalion assets were stationed in Port Moresby, Milne Bay, Oro Bay, Finchhaven, and Hollandia, New Guinea, engaged in base patrol, ship and dockside security, and guarding military installation's, a stockade and enemy POW's.

        The Battalion was also detailed as an Honor Guard and for security (September 1943) during the visit of First Lady, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt during her good will tour in Australia.
