    On 6 April 1944 MAJ Wajnowski received command of the Battalion at New Guinea from LTC Arthur S. Bell.

     The Battalion assets were stationed in Port Moresby, Milne Bay, Oro Bay, Finchhaven, and Hollandia, New Guinea, engaged in base patrol, ship and dockside security, and guarding military installation's, a stockade and Japanese POW's.

    On 3 October 1944 he was reassigned to Brisbane, Australia, and left temporary command to his executive officer, MAJ Houser.
